Abi Takes On The Great North Run

Our Equine Technician Abi Austin is taking on the challenge of The Great North Run on Sunday 10th Sept, she will join thousands of fellow runners on the start line in one of the country's largest fund raisers. Abi will be tackling the half marathon on her own but is sure to find friendly morale support along the way with so many running for causes close to their hearts.  Her aim is to raise £300 and complete the run in less than 2.5hrs.

Here's Abi's reasons for tackling The Great North Run and why she has chosen to support The Brooke:

"As some of you may know, before the beginning of this year I hadn't run as much as a meter in the past 15 years due to suffering from shin splints. However, my ambition has always been to run a marathon.... this is halfway there, I guess!  Having run 10km a few weeks ago I'm now hoping to prove to myself that even though I'm no spring chicken, I have the mental (and hopefully physical) ability to keep putting one foot in front of the other for 13.1 miles.  Wish me luck!

My charity of choice is  The Brooke, an international charity that protects the lives of horses, mules and donkeys and the people who depend on them.  Their aim is to equip owners with the knowledge and skills to give their animals a better way of life.  I'm passionate about horses and, unlike running, this passion has been with me my whole life.  Brooke have made, and continue to make, a difference to horses, mules and donkeys worldwide - I'd like my pain and suffering to benefit these wonderful creatures :)"
