Chip Fractures‹ Full Conditions List

Chip fractures can occur in several different places, however they are most commonly found at the knee. Chip fractures are small fractures that break off one of the bones in the knee and occur generally because of high amounts of concussion and stress on the knee. They are most commonly seen in racehorses, hunters and jumpers. A horse with a chip fracture will show high levels of inflammation, swelling and lameness however the extent of the symptoms are dependent on the level of trauma to the bones. The amount of damage can also depend on; the age of the horse, horse's level of activity, conformation and the standard of trimming and shoeing.
